It wasn’t long before we had stumbled upon Vieng Vilay Backpackers. For us, the place was perfect. It was located across the road from a bike shop and had heaps of sandwich/pancake carts. We settled for a double room for 80,000kip a night (11AUD) we had unpacked (by that I mean we threw our stuff around the room) and were ready to start exploring.
We decided we would ride over the bridge and go to the famous Blue Lagoon, so Justin could go for a swim and cool off. Once we drove through beautiful country scenery for 20 minutes we had arrived, the water is crystal clear, the beers super cold and the people are of course, friendly. A perfect way to spend our afternoon before heading back to Vieng Vilay.
We changed into our swimmers and jumped straight in; the water was perfect and cold. We relaxed here for about 30 minutes, only sharing the river with some ducks up stream. We would have stayed for longer but I spotted a leech on Justin's leg and freaked out, bolting out of the water quicker than imaginable. I know what you're thinking and yes, I am completely aware I am irrational. Just as we were getting ready to leave a group of kids arrived from school and plunged into the river with their knickers on, showing off as they love to do, and we love to see!
