On our last big ride with Didge we decided to take him to Cao Bang, a small town near the Chinese Boarder with little interest to Tourist, except for the waterfall ‘Ban Gioc’ which sits about 2 hours ride away from it, literally on the Chinese Boarder. The ride to Cao Bang made us fall even more in love (if that’s possible) with Vietnam’s countryside, we don’t understand how one country can be so diverse, as we rode through the limestone that towered tall above the small villages it was hard to believe that just 2 weeks ago we were in Sand Dunes. |
After 3 and half hours of riding we were in Cao Bang, we checked into the first hotel we found and set out to find some lunch (at this point our stomachs were YELLING that they be fed). This simple task turned out to be much more confusing and difficult then anticipated. The only words we understood on the local menus were ‘beef’ and ‘chicken’ although we didn’t see the words for ‘rice’ or ‘noodles’ we were a little concerned that the side dish may be dog. So we opted for a bag of chips to settle our growling bellies. Once we rested and freshened up a little we headed into town to get something a little bit more substantial and found a doner kebab stand. We jumped for joy and ordered up. The following day we excitedly woke up and grabbed some bakery goods for breakfast. We set off on our merry way to Ban Gioc Waterfall, its safe to say we were not disappointed. The road there took us on a winding adventure through villages with smiling kids, limestone formations that towered over us and roads that hugged the purest blue water we have seen. As we approached the road that overseas Ban Goic we were (for the millionth time since landing in HCMC) left speechless. Like I always say, I can’t describe the beauty so enjoy the pictures we took. There are some absolutely amazing pictures on Justin’s photography page as well. |
I better go, we have to wake up at 5:30am for our flight tomorrow, we’re not cut out for early mornings…
