So heres our bucket list, something which we have only just recently sat down to write, hopefully it'll give you guys some inspiration to write one of your own. Its all pretty far fetched I guess you could say, but hey, if you're going to live life, live it to the fullest, not fulfilling some half assed dream.
The rules of our bucket list are pretty simple, one or both of us can complete the task in order for it to be crossed off the list. I doubt we will get to do many of these things over the next few years (we are travelling on a pretty tight budget) but the ones we do achieve we will cross them off and write a little sum'n sum'n for you lot to read and hopefully have a chuckle at. 1. Ride a Flowbarrel 2. Explore a cave - Borneo was absolutely amazing for this, you can get lost in the caves for ages here, we did a little exploring, but only a little due to Abbys claustrophobia and irrational fear of the dark. 3. Swing off a rope into water - Justin did this one at the well known 'Blue Lagoon' in Vang Vieng, Cambodia. 4. Walk a suspension bridge - We did this in Bohol, The Philippines. We walked along a bamboo suspension bridge called 'the hanging bridge', didn't live up to the hype really, but we got to tick it off the list! 5. Skydive 6. Swim with sharks - Nestled in the reefs of Perhentian Island in Malaysia we found a 4 foot reef shark, it wasn't a man eater, but hey it WAS a shark and we did SWIM with it. 7. Jump off a cliff - Justin did this at Salagadoon Beach in the Philippines. 8. Ride in a hot air balloon - Cant believe we were able to tick this one off without braking the budget too much! We did this in Vang Vieng in the beautiful Laos, such a random place to find hot air ballooning but it provided truly astonishing views! 9. Skinny dip 10. Go on a police ride along 11. La Tomatina 12. Be in a dust storm 13. See the salmon run 14. Watch turtles hatch/release turtles into the ocean 15. Look inside the mouth of a volcano 16. Start a fire without matches 17. Survive a night with nothing 18. Kiss in the rain - In the cold rain of Dengfeng, China, a little smooch might have happened 19. Climb to the top of a tree 20. Feed a crocodile 21. Watch the sunrise and sunset in one day 22. Oktoberfest 23. Make a snowman 24. Kiss in the snow 25. Receive a fan letter 26. Have a meaningful conversation with a stranger - Having travelled across Asia, we have met heaps of people which we have had some great, meaningful conversations with. 27. Eat a brownie at a ‘coffeeshop’ in Amsterdam 28. Buy a homeless person dinner 29. Sing a karaoke duet 30. Become ‘Googable’ 31. Make a difference in a stranger’s life - I think we can tick this one off, although its something we want to do throughout our lives. At a small hotel in Binh Dinh the children from the village surrounding the hotel come over for the chance to hang out with foreigners. Here we met a beautiful 12 year old girl, Song, who over the course of 2 days was attached to us and was pretty sad to see us go. We tried to help teach her some English words, play games with her, and let her play games on our phone. 32. Send someone an anonymous gift 33. Go Geocaching 34. Meet a president/prime minister 35. Share a taxi with a stranger - Upon arriving in Yangshuo we were able to convince a Chinese couple who could speak English to split a taxi and help us get to our hotel. 36. Put change into someone’s expired meter 37. Adopt a child 38. Be published 39. Build a treehouse 40. Spend a night under the stars 41. Spend a night in a couch fort 42. Take a mud bath 43. Swim in a geothermal pool 44. Invent something and sell one item 45. Couchsurf 46. Have drinks at an ice bar 47. Eat an insect - Justin did this at a night market in Phuket, he chomped down on a grasshopper, one of its legs even got lodged in his throat. 48. Have a foodfight 49. Drink absinthe 50. Go to a football game in Europe or South America 51. Go to the superbowl 52. Go to Knights vs Bulldogs game 53. Write a cook book for our kids 54. Eat frogs legs and snails 55. Be an extra in a movie 56. Start a singalong in a bar 57. Dance on a bar 58. Bicycle across the golden gate bridge 59. Meet Steve Carrell 60. Be on a TV show 61. Japanese game show! - Im pretty shattered to say that this one is basically impossible for us. We looked into going on one and they pretty much don't accept anyone who doesn't speak fluent Japanese, even for the audience, pretty heartbreaking. 62. Go to a drive-in 63. Make it to the VIP section of a club 64. Perform with a band 65. Go to a renaissance festival 66. Go to Mardi Gras in New Orleans 67. Be on the cover of a magazine 68. Hold my own photography exhibition 69. Set a world record 70. Be picked in a street performance 71. See a Broadway play 72. See Moulin Rouge 73. See a space shuttle launch 74. Spend a night in a cell together 75. Be asked for your autograph - You may think this is cheating, but its our bucket list. We were at a Malaysian backpackers and literally jumped for joy when a receptionist said "Can I have your autograph". It was for the receipt, but that bit isn't really relevant. 76. Take an improv class 77. Make money as a street performer 78. Sit front row at a basketball game 79. Watch sumo wrestling 80. Attend a unique small world event 81. Start a proper blog 82. Swim with turtles - This experience has topped a lot on our trips. We were in the Perhentian Islands when we got to swim with some turtles, it was amazing and to top it off Justin even saw one poo, yes, we are 10. 83. Find a message in a bottle - Success! We found a message in a bottle on the top of a mountain in Yangshuo, China. It was left by Noemi from Switzerland, thanks Noemi! |
84. Go to every continent 85. Walk on stilts 86. Stay up for 24 hours 87. 40 hour famine 88. Buy everyone at the bar a round of drinks 89. Meet a monk - While in Bangkok we met a monk at the top of one of the many temples across the city. 90. Release a Chinese lantern - We attempted this in Phuket, Thailand, unfortunately for us the wind came up as we were trying to let it go and it caught on fire before the Thai stepped on it and covered it with wet sand. We are still determined to tick this one off! - We can now tick this off - round 2 was in Laos in Luang Prabang at a end of fasting festival, although our lantern hovered dangerously low to peoples heads, it eventually set off into the sky! 91. Use a paddle to bid at an auction 92. Slide down a firehouse pole 93. Surf at El Fronton 94. Ride a camel 95. Meet Dave Winchester/Ben Player 96. Cruise from Europe to America 97. Kiss under the Eifel Tower 98. Drive Route 66 99. Drive at a race day 100. Test drive a convertible sports car 101. Go in a submarine 102. Swim in the Ganges 103. Ride a Gondola 104. Take a long distance train journey - Hong Kong to Beijing took us 26 hours, thats long enough for us to tick this one off! 105. Take a tour on a double decker bus - In beautiful KL we decided to take the hop on hop off bus, childishly sitting on the second deck of the buss every time we got on. 106. Make a phone call from a London phone booth 107. Stay in a castle 108. WWOOF 109. Stay in a monastery 110. Eat a delicacy - Mmm Beijing fried scorpion, delicious! 111. Help build a house in a third world country 112. Build our own house 113. Visit a ghost town 114. Sleep in a hammock on the beach - Something we thought less and less about doing in SE Asia, thinking it would be too hot to survive. However, we found a perfect hotel called 'Life's A Beach' in Binh Dinh on the coast of Vietnam. More perfect than it sounds. 115. Explore a rainforest - Mossy Forest in Cameron Highlands, lead by a guide named "Money" we were taken deep into the forest exploring off the track. 116. Visit a concentration camp 117. Pan for gold 118. Learn a foreign language fluently 119. Shower in a waterfall - Bali's natural massages are better then any you can get in a parlour even if they are only $5 or have a happy ending. 120. Plant a tree 121. Spend NYE in Times Square 122. Go on a Safari 123. Experience weightlessness 124. See a tornado touch ground 125. Bungee Jump 126. Try to make a guard laugh at Buckingham Palace 127. See the Northern Lights 128. Wash an elephant - An absolutely AMAZING experience, we did this at an Elephant Conservation Camp called "Save Elephants" in Chiang Mai, Thailand. 156. Surf in a great lake 157. Finish a food challenge - A hamburger challenge found in the oddest of places, a Chinese restaurant in The Cameron Highlands, Malaysia. 158. Stay in a hotel over water 159. Travel with Nomads 160. Participate in Holi 161. Spend a night on a deserted island 162. Travel around Australia 163. Flip a coin to choose on a tough decision 164. Get a traditional tattoo - Abby braved up for this one (seeing as Justin is allergic to tattoos) in Pai (Thailand) Abby saw the signs for 'Bamboo Tattoos' and decided then and there she was getting one. Even though it hurt like hell, she now rocks a small plane on her ankle. 165. Go to an outdoor ice ring 166. Take a selfie with someone from law enforcement 167. Visit the Great Wall of China - One of the best days of our lives, we walked the wall for a few hours until we reached a no visitors beyond this point sign, of course we kept going onto the original wall which led us to some of the most amazing solitary views. |
