Bali is now our home away from home I guess you could say, Justin and I both absolutely love everything about the tropical island, the culture, the sights, the food and of course, the beautiful people.
If you are thinking of travelling to Bali I guess our first bit of advice is aimed way before you even step foot onto the plane. Forget everything you've seen on TV about Bali, oh, and don’t bother taking long pants 'just in case’.
If you can walk out of the airport and into the hot, sweaty air of Indonesia with an open mind, you’re on the right track.
Our first trip to Bali in early 2012 was really our first taste of the delicious feast that is travelling (remember, the blog is called newly nomads) I personally, was absolutely petrified to go to Bali (if you are in the same situation refer to our advice listed above) Justin on the other hand had been several times as a child, and he has little fear for anything (except avocados).
The first night we stayed at our now favourite place in Bali Suriwathi Hotel in Legian, slipping on our thongs, we lugged our stuff into the bedroom to be welcomed by a huge Indonesian storm that shook the walls of our little room. This was the sweatiest, stickiest sleep we have had to date. I went to sleep that night thinking to myself "If this is travelling, I don’t want it".
Over the next 3 weeks I fell in love with everything that Bali was about, the best thing hands down about Bali is the people, the locals are humble people who have so little and have worked so hard, but yet have a heart bigger then those who have everything.
Over the 3 weeks we spent in Bali we travelled through Ubud, Seminyak, Nusa Dua, Nusa Lembongan and of course, Legian. Legian is by far our favourite, it's not so much in the hustle and bustle that you can't walk onto the street, but its enough that there is garenteed a blue bird taxi every 4th car.
Stay tuned, theres always more about Bali to come.
Abby & Justin
