So now we had fully recovered from 2 nights ago and decided it was time to get our asses into gear and head on the first leg of our journey. We were following the 'Mae Hong Son' loop as our guide, but really had no set in plans or accommodation. We decided our first stop would be the quiet little town of Mae Chaem, about 120k's from Chaing Mai. We set off after some dangerously delicious waffles from Cumpun Guesthouse. Once we got out of the city we had a bit of fun overtaking each other & soon realised our bikes had nothing like Digde's power in Vietnam. Nevertheless we managed to make it up some pretty big hills, but only just. Once we reached Doi Inthanon National Park the scenery became stunning. We stopped off at a sign saying 'waterfall' and found ourselves standing in front of Wachirathan Waterfall. We spent about half an hour here before we decided we should probably continue on our merry way. Our next stop came after a wrong turn (this time it was Justin's fault.) we stopped off at the Twin Pagodas, only 20ks down the wrong road, the perfect place for some lunch. After about 5 hours we were in Mae Chaem and found ourselves a little bed guesthouse and relaxed for the remaining hours left of the day. |
The next morning we were up and ready to rumble. After our stop at 7/11 for some breakfast (becoming a daily ritual) we made our way to Khuan Yuam, another small town about 130k's from Mae Chaem. The scenery was of course just as breathtaking. Our map told us to take a right turn about 15k's out of Khan Yuam which turned out to be another wrong turn (this time it was no ones fault, I guess.) But this unexpected turn took us 30k's on stunning winding roads and then all of a sudden into a field of wild sunflowers. The flowers apparently only bloom during during October and November, so although our map betrayed us, we were pretty thankful for getting lost.
We backtracked our steps and continued on for the last 15k's without any hiccups. We found 'Good View Homestay' and once again spent the afternoon relaxing.
I better go, we asked our host how to work the hot water in the shower and she has come down with cups of tea, oh no.
